Irrewarra Pinot Noir 2020
Though Australian wines aren’t common on our site, we couldn’t resist these. The Calvert family, known for their Irrewarra Sourdough Bakery, planted the vines in 2001. Inspired by their time in Burgundy, they chose to plant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay—and we’re glad they did. At the time, the climate was ideal for these Burgundian varietals. However, after planting, a 10-year drought delayed the appearance of a viable crop. But it was well worth the wait—you’ll taste why.
The vineyard is now managed by renowned Australian winemakers Gary and Robyn Farr, along with their son Nick and his wife Cassie. In 2015, the family took full control of the vineyard, and in 2017, they released their 2016 Chardonnay and 2015 Pinot Noir, both of which received rave reviews.
