Jazpémi Valtellina Superiore 2021
Tucked away in the heart of the Italian Alps, this tiny, family-run winery is led by Angelo Sega and his sons, Luca and Matteo.
The Sega family is now five generations deep in winemaking, but it wasn’t until the early 2000s that Angelo, alongside his father and brother, expanded the operation and shifted their focus toward crafting more precise, expressive wines. While previous generations—his grandfather and great-grandfather—produced wines in bulk, Angelo saw the potential for something greater.
With the support of his family, he refined the vision and grew the team. Nearly 25 years later, that momentum continues. Today, Angelo, together with Luca and Matteo, forms the heart and soul of the winery.
We’ve started seeing their wines more frequently here in the Bay Area—so naturally, we had to find out what the buzz was about. One sip was all it took to understand. These are soulful, savory wines that reflect their terrior with clarity and grace.
The grapes are organically farmed, and the winemaking is firmly rooted in a low-intervention philosophy: no fining, no filtering, and no added sulfites. What ends up in the bottle is vibrant, textured, and deeply expressive of its mountain terroir.
Crafted from Chiavennasca, the local name for Nebbiolo, this wine offers a distinct and compelling take on a classic grape. It’s savory, food-friendly, and packed with character—perfect for the curious wine drinker eager to explore something a little different.
Fun fact: Every label features ancient cave drawings discovered in a nearby archaeological site—adding a touch of history and a strong sense of place to each bottle.
