Lautizio 2024
Collecapretta, which translates to "hill of goats," is a special pocket of land that has been farmed by the Mattioli family since the 1100s. Tucked away in southern Umbria (Central Italy), this small farm spans just 8 hectares and could easily be missed on a map.
Three generations of the Mattioli family live and work together. When it comes to winemaking, Vittorio Mattioli, his wife Anna, and their daughter Annalisa take the lead. All of their wines are farmed biodynamically, and the winemaking philosophy is consistent across all cuvées: minimal intervention, no added sulfur, and no temperature control and you won't find any oak here. Production is intentionally small just 8,000 bottles a year, reflecting the family's commitment to tradition and purity.
The Lautizio is made from 100% Ciliegiolo, an Italian grape whose name comes from ciliegia, the word for cherry. Ciliegiolo is also one of the parent grapes of Italy’s better known varietal, Sangiovese.
This light to medium bodied red offers notes of red and black fruit, soft tannins, and lively acidity, making it a fun, food friendly wine. Think easygoing, midweek drinking with plenty of charm.
