James Jelks is a young winemaker to watch. His wines are as unique as they are irresistible. Based in Santa Cruz, James sources organically farmed fruit from both the Santa Cruz region and, occasionally, Sonoma.

His path into wine started early. During college, he managed to land a spot on a summer study abroad program in Burgundy—a trip that completely reshaped his professional trajectory. From that point on, he was all in. When we met James, his laid-back energy was unmistakable. He’s one of the most easygoing winemakers we know, and his mission is simple: to make great wine for good food and even better company.
